About Volunteering
Attorneys can volunteer in the following ways:
- Full representation: in pre-screened adoption, custody and dissolution cases.
- Special Immigrant Juvenile Cases: full representation in divorce/custody/guardianship cases where the minor child may be eligible for immigration relief
- Phone Advice: provide advice remotely during a 2 hour block of time
- Legal Clinics: provide advice to walk-in clients at the Family Justice Center
- Limited Scope services: attend mediation with a client, prep a client to represent themselves at trial, draft a document for a client
- Mentoring: support new volunteer attorneys in family law
Requirements for Volunteering
For full representation opportunities, no experience is needed.
For advice (either via phone or in clinics), 2+ years of family law experience is required.
