Hear from three of the newer housing court referees about housing court and the importance of having volunteers. We will also have a panel of experienced volunteers share their tips and tricks about effectively providing pro bono services to clients.

Judicial Panel: Referees Franklin Reed (4th District), Katheryn Bergstrom (2nd District), and James Watche-Koranne (10th District)
Volunteer Panel: Attorneys Patricia Bloodgood, Jeremy Greenhouse, and Scott Kreighbaum

1.5 Elimination of Bias credits | Register Here

Please Note: This training was originally scheduled for a different time and has been moved.

Bring your questions and experiences for an interactive introduction into working with people through the lens of providing legal aid to those in need. We’ll talk about what you bring to the table, how to work on establishing a rapport with clients quickly, and how lived experiences can impact the attorney/client relationship.

Presented by Luci Russell (they/them) BWS, MSW, LGSW

This will be a CLE like no other. Hennepin Housing Court staff have agreed to open up a mock zoom initial appearance calendar for training purposes. Participants will log-in to the court link, hear the court roll call and instructions, practice moving themselves into zoom breakout rooms, and follow along as VLN staff enact several mock cases and screenshare exhibits. To finish, the housing court referee will impart a few words of wisdom on common mistakes by attorneys in zoom court.
