Description of the training:
All protections in the moratorium sunset on June 1, 2022. As was expected, the courts have been dealing with a surge of eviction cases since that time. Please join us in hearing what it is like to deal with the surge from court staff, lawyers representing tenants and lawyers representing landlords. This panel discussion is for lawyers and non-lawyers, current and prospective volunteers. Lawyers can expect to leave this training with a greater understanding of the importance of their pro bono service in housing court and some nuts and bolts about how to best advise low-income parties during this surge period. There is an optional happy hour at Brit’s Pub from 4:15 – 6:00 following the CLE.
Panelists include:
• Michael Upton, Civil Division Administrator, 2nd Judicial District
• Adam Silver, Court Operations Supervisor, Housing Division, 4th Judicial District
• Elizabeth Sauer, Managing Attorney, Central Minnesota Legal Services (CMLS)
• Wendy Willson Legge, VLN Volunteer
• Robin Ann Williams, Abriter
Moderated by Muria Kruger, Housing Program Manager and Resource Attorney at Volunteer Lawyers Network
This CLE will be followed by a happy hour at Brit’s Pub in downtown Minneapolis. No registration required for the happy hour!
