Eviction expungement is a great way for legal volunteers to make a difference. Expunging an eviction can have a dramatic effect on a tenant’s life by increasing the likelihood that the tenant will find safe and affordable housing. Eviction expungement is also a discreet, reasonably narrow area of the law. And, due to changes in court procedures in light of COVID-19, many eviction expungements are now decided on paperwork alone.

This CLE will cover the fundamentals of eviction expungement: the legal standards, the best arguments to raise, and the procedure from drafting to filing to post-hearing notifications. After taking this training, volunteers should be reasonably equipped to take on expungement cases on their own.

The CLE will also be provided on demand on our website after the training. All volunteers who want to begin taking eviction expungement cases will be encouraged to watch it.
