Many people in local immigrant communities seek to develop emergency plans in the event a member of the family, such as a parent of minor children, is arrested, detained or deported. The Volunteer Lawyers Network (VLN) is working with local community organizations to provide services that help families develop emergency plans. The purpose of this CLE is to train volunteer lawyers in different legal areas to help people plan for the future. The CLE will cover relevant legal matters in the employment, housing, family, personal property and real estate context, among others. Participants will be asked to volunteer with this project.

The CLE will:

  • Inform on immigrant community needs for emergency planning in the case of arrest, detention and/or deportation and how VLN is addressing this urgent need in partnership with others.
  • Education and train lawyers (from all areas of law) regarding different legal matters relevant to the community.
  • Provide lawyers volunteer opportunities through VLN to help provide legal advice and service.

2.0 CLE credits will be applied for.

Lunch provided. For current volunteers with the Family Preparedness Project lunch is complimentary. For other participants there is a $15.00 charge.

VLN will ask participants to sign up as volunteers to help with this project.
