Agenda:
This three-hour session is an introduction to family law practice. Attending this training will help prepare volunteers to take on a case through the Volunteer Lawyers Network or help orient a lawyer to key family law concepts. This session will address the following:

  • Family court policies & procedures
  • Child custody procedures
  • Custody evaluations, Social Early Neutral Evaluations (SENE), Guardian Ad Litems
  • Best interest of the Child factors
  • Child support determinations
  • Overview of division of assets & debts in a dissolution

Schedule:
8:30 – 8:45 a.m. Sign-in (in person attendees only)
8:45 – 9:45 a.m. Introduction to laws, policies, and court procedures in Minnesota family law cases
5 minute break
9:50 – 10:50 a.m. Custody determinations, factors, and procedure
10 minute break
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Child support and division of assets and debts

CLE:  3.0 hours of Standard MN CLE credit will be applied for.
