UPDATE: The November Criminal Expungement Training has been moved to November 28th at the same time (noon to 1:00pm)
The Criminal Expungement Program offers a monthly training. We have two trainings that are held on alternate months. These trainings are for attorneys and legal support staff who are interested in taking a criminal expungement case through VLN.
Trainings are held on the last Friday of every month from noon to 1:00pm over Zoom. To register, please email Lilly Duquette at [email protected] to register for the training and receive a Zoom link. She can also confirm which training is being held on which month.
Training 1: Full Representation Criminal Expungement Training
This training will give you the basic knowledge you need to volunteer with the criminal expungement program. It will cover criminal expungement law, how to take a pro bono case, and the overall volunteer process from start to finish. It is appropriate for those who are interested in learning about pro bono criminal expungements, new volunteers who want to take their first case, and current volunteers who need a refresher on the basics. There will be time to ask questions after the training.
Training 2: Reading and Analyzing Criminal Records
Understanding criminal records is one of the more confusing aspects of criminal expungement. This training will cover what records VLN sends volunteers with criminal expungement cases, where to find other records you may need, and how to analyze a client’s criminal records for the purposes of expungement. During the training, the Criminal Expungement Program Manager will analyze real criminal records for common issues volunteers encounter with their own cases. There will be time to ask questions during and after the training.
